History

This is a last one dedicated to Lord Siva in Kanyakumari District. This temple stresses the philosophy that Lord Siva and Lord Vishnu are one and the same. Here, the god appears as Sankaranarayana. We have a temple for Lord Siva and yet another one for Sankaranarayana separately here. There is a Holy Tank between these two temples.

The devotees of Sivalaya Marathan take bath here and then worship Lord Siva and Sankaranarayanan. They realize that Siva and Vishnu are one and get satisfied and complete their Marathan.

We have two round lettered inscriptions which were renewed by the Department of Archeology for Travancore. One inscription talks about the managing of the inn at Nattalam and the other is about the remuneration given for reciting the story of Mahabharatha.

Thus, there are histories adding the twelve temples together and individually. Some of the devotees, after running to all the twelve temples in Kalkulam and Vilavancode taluks go to Suchindram to worship Lord Thanumalaya in Augustiweswaram taluk.
